Description:

In recent years, numerous fractures within global society have become apparent. Many people witness these fractures and experience them first-hand; we are correspondingly deeply insecure and doubt the viability of our civilizational structures. To explain what is currently going wrong, the author takes the reader on a journey through neuroscience. His central hypothesis: We are trapped in a Stockholm syndrome, or structural traumatic dissociation, both individually and socially.

Dissociation means splitting off. It corresponds to the fracturing of a person who has gone through a severe, overwhelming experience. Through this rupture, people lose the connection to themselves and to the outside world. The underlying traumas encompass an accumulation of individual, transgenerational, cultural, political–systemic and economic factors. Due to this traumatic alienation, we find ourselves in a deep crisis and struggle to cope with the challenges of our time. And so the ship of humanity, overloaded with the illusion of control and security, is drifting dangerously close to the reef of ecological disaster.

The most common human species is that of vampires. These are driven and internally torn by two deep-seated curses: the traumatic loss of self-image and the craving for blood as well as immortality. We all carry vampiric parts within us. But if we succeed in recognizing ourselves in the mirror image and sustainably satisfy our hunger, we are empowered to begin the journey toward new horizons.

Such a change of course is possible. Let us start now!
