Sur ma parole, depuis que nous sommes partis, nous n'avons pas fait plus de cent milles à l'heure. Les oiseaux mêmes nous battent, quelques-uns au moins. Je vous assure qu'il n'y a là aucune exagération. Notre mouvement, sans doute, semble plus lent qu'il n'est réellement – et cela, parce que nous n'avons autour de nous aucun point de comparaison qui puisse nous faire juger de notre rapidité, et que nous marchons avec le vent. Assurément, toutes les fois que nous rencontrons un autre ballon, nous avons alors quelque chance de nous rendre compte de notre vitesse, et je dois reconnaître qu'en somme cela ne va pas trop mal.
